The Preliminary Session of the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) Summit which was held at Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi, Kenya concluded on Thursday with the outcome of a Draft Nairobi Declaration.
An Ethiopian delegation led by Ethiopia's Permanent Representative to the Africa Union and the United Nation Economic Commission for Africa, Ambassador Wahide Belay took part in the drafting process of the Nairobi Declaration.
Senior officials from Africa and Japan prepared the Nairobi Declaration draft document which upon a review session by ministers is expected to be adopted by leaders at the end of the summit due on August 28, 2016.
Over the week, the senior officials identified priority areas of TICAD VI and drafted general guiding principles.
During the preliminary session the participants reviewed the status of implementation of the targets agreed upon during the TICAD V Summit in Tokyo in 2013 and looked into the various TICAD programmes already underway across Africa.
They also held discussions on major emerging challenges and opportunities in Africa.
